Markets fell slightly on profit taking but Utilities and Resources sectors increased. The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index closed at 2,767.24 down 0.41% or 11.35 points and the Shenzhen Component Index closed at 10,733.72 up 0.20% or 21.40 points. Combined turnover increased to RMB 263.54 bln, up from 238.79 bln the previous trading day.

Flat Market After Strong Surge Yesterday, Real Estate Gain Print E-mail

Markets remain positive on opening but fell in afternoon session to close relatively unchanged. The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index closed at 2,724.30 up 0.11% or 3.02 points and the Shenzhen Component Index closed at 10,484.33 down 0.60% or 62.98 points.

Stocks Surged On Stronger PMI For May 2009 Print E-mail

Markets surged on stronger Purchasing Managers Index (PMI) for May 2009 as well as rises in international markets. All sectors put on a positive performance led by finance, real estate and resources.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index closed at 2,721.28 up 3.36% or 88.35 points and the Shenzhen Component Index closed at 10,421.34 up 2.90% or 293.42 points. Combined turnover increased to RMB 225.23 bln, up from 161.26 bln the previous trading day.

Finance and Insurance Industrial and Commercial Bank (601398) up 3.69% to RMB 4.50, China Construction Bank (601939) up 2.84% to RMB 4.71, Bank of China (601988) up 2.80% to RMB 3.67, Bank of Communications (601328) up 3.70% to RMB 7.29, China Merchants Bank (600036) up 5.58% to RMB 17.80 and China CITIC Bank (601998) up 1.77% to RMB 5.17.

Markets rebounded today led by Finance and Resources sectors with Petrochina gaining over 4.3% on expectations of gasoline price increases at the pump. The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index closed at 2,632.93 up 1.71% or 44.35 points and the Shenzhen Component Index closed at 10,127.92 up 1.05% or 105.62 points. Combined turnover decreased to RMB 161.26 bln, down from 192.2 bln the previous trading day.
